Self-reported Transcript and Academic Record System (STARS) Record for First-Year Students

Penn State uses the Self-reported Transcript and Academic Record System (STARS) to review an applicant’s high school coursework and grades. This removes the need for school counselors to send transcripts to Penn State at the time of application.

Your application is not complete until we receive the STARS Record. If you apply through MyPennState, you'll self-report your courses and grades while completing your application. If you apply through Common App, we'll email you with details to complete your STARS Record after we receive your application.

It’s important for students to report their coursework and grades on the STARS Record exactly as they appear on the high school transcript. We suggest that you have a copy of your high school transcript on hand when completing this task. Your school counselor can provide a copy of your transcript.

Please review the STARS Record Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page for more information.
